Teacher/Artist

Michele Wilson has been privately teaching art for over 10 years. In August 2007, when her student base became more than her home art studio could handle, she opened her current studio in Historical Downtown Hartselle, Alabama. Michele currently teaches art in Florence, Decatur, Huntsville, and in her Hartselle studio.

As a teacher of art, Michele strives to encourage art awareness while also nurturing the artistic passion her students possess. Her students rank highly as award-winning artists in various art competitions. Although Michele does not pride herself in helping her students to achieve their awards, she does pride herself in encouraging them to realize their artistic potential. Michele is the founder of the {Hartselle Art Studio & Gallery Scholarship Fund}, where she strives to be an outside encourager to her students by giving scholarship money to her senior students upon completion of high school.

Outside of her studio, Michele also teaches art at various other locations.  She taught satellite art classes for at Master’s Hand Christian School.  MHCS is a homeschool group that meets every Friday at Faith Baptist Church in Moulton, Alabama.  She also taught at CrossRoads Christian Academy, a homeschool group that meets every Monday in Somerville, Alabama.

Michele grew up in rural Corner, Alabama as Missy Garnett, and comes from a long lineage of artists, including her uncle, Joe Garnett. Though she has had various art training, she considers herself to be basically self-taught. Michele is a commissioned artist and has been involved in commissions for school systems, individuals, and corporations. Her portraits are most in demand. She is a realist and specializes, but does not limit herself, in teaching realism. She is experienced in all mediums and teaches extensively acrylic, watercolor, pencil, colored pencil, scratch board, and pastel. Of all mediums, Michele’s favorite is pastel. She has won many awards as a pastelist over the years. Her composition “The Gardener” was shown in September 2006 at the Pastel Society of America’s annual exhibit at the National Arts Club Museum in New York City. She is currently a member of the Southeastern Pastel Society, the Alabama Pastel Society, and the Alabama Watercolor Society.

Michele has been blessed with three wonderful children: Brantley, Braddock, and Brooke. When she is not teaching art, she enjoys time with her children, family, and friends.  She believes that her faith in God is of utmost importance, and strives to encourage her students to do all of their work for the glory of God, and not for others.  She is an active member of First Bible Church in Decatur.  She also has a passion for running, as it has been a great help to her physically and mentally over the years. The Hartselle Art Studio & Galley annual Art in Motion 5K/Fun Run was born from this passion.
